Quick Inspiration

Every time we decide to take on a new challenge or make a decision to do something new in our lives, we relate the situation to our values in our lives.

  The way we express ourselves relating to situations, says wonders about how much we are truly are connected to the action according to our values.  There are 7 levels of verbal expression we use to express this connection.  
  • Have to : 7/1
  • Ought to : 6/1
  • Need to : 5/1
  • Want to : 4/1
  • Desire to : 3/1
  • Choose to : 2/1
  • Love to : 1/1
  Each of these expressions as you can see, also have a correlation, which shows how aligned with our personal values what we are speaking about is.   If we say that we “have to” do something, this is expressing that we are viewing the situation as having 7x more negatives than positives towards our values.   As we move up the scale, we approach “Want to:4/1”.  This is when we have entered into our highest values.  Only when we are aligned with our highest values are we willing to endure both pleasure and pain in a situation.  This is why we actually want to do the situation and don’t feel we are being forced.   Once we move upwards and reach the “Love to:1/1” is when we are in complete alignment with our value system.  This is a reflection of your highest value in your life.  The 1 thing you would never need to be forced to do.   So the next time you are in conversation, take a minute to listen how you are expressing yourself.  It just may reveal to you why you are feeling a certain way towards a situation.   Next week, I will talk about how we can change our level of expression with any action we are currently doing or not doing.   Have an awesome and inspired day!   Trevor A. Quick Inspiration: Maximizing Your Personal Power

Today I wanted to talk about maximizing your personal power by sharing an inspiring passage from Robert Green the author of, The 48 Laws of Power. “Learning the game of power requires a certain way of looking at the world, a shifting of perspective.  It takes effort and years of practice for much of the game does not come naturally.  Certain basic skills are required, and once you master these skills you will be able to apply the laws of power more easily.  The most important of these skills, and power’s crucial foundation, is the ability to master your emotions.” This is the absolute greatest barrier to attaining your personal power shift and will set you back much further than the dopamine fix you will receive from what you will be gaining by expressing yourself.  Learning how to balance your emotional responses by calibrating your perceptions will enable you to remain much more clear-headed and on your direct path towards maximizing your potential in life. We all have our highest values in life.  Next time you are perceiving something as “negative” only, ask yourself,  “How does this benefit my life in regards to my highest values?”  Maybe the situation is providing you an extreme lesson, which could be the turning point you just might be looking for. Your Weight Loss Depends Directly on Your Thinking!

We all have our fitness goals.  Now for many, these goals seem completely attainable.  Many are currently and consistently chipping away at these goals gaining and gaining on them every day.  This is a great example of the progressive mindset.  On the other hand, there are several people who feel that even stepping up to the plate to accomplishing these goals is just a waste of time.  Many times blaming external factors such as genetics, or other excuses as to why they are unable to attain their goals, rather than becoming the master of their own destiny.  This is a clear example of the set or regressive mindset. The truth is that at the end of the day, we all only have 24 hours to work with.  Isn’t it interesting that the most successful people in all areas of life, whom many of us admire, have the same amount of time that we do?  Isn’t it interesting that if you take the time to research those very people that the large majority have an incredible story which more times than not begins with an extreme deficit in their lives.  A void, if you will, which provides the drive they need to accelerate their lives directly towards accomplishing their goals and literally their dreams.   What I would like you to do is simply read the 4 statements below and select the statements you agree with as well as those that you disagree with.  
  1. You are a certain kind of person, and there is not too much you can do to change that.
  2. No matter what kind of person you are, you can always change substantially.
  3. You can do things differently, but the important parts of who you are can’t really be changed
  4. You can always change the basic things about the kind of person you are.
  Did you find yourself agreeing with #1 and #3?  Or more with #2 and #4?  If you were all over 2 and 4, you have a progressive mindset.  If you connected more with 1 and 3, you have a set or regressive mindset when it comes to your personality traits.  Not a bad thing.  The important thing is that you have identified this so that you can begin transforming your patterns of thoughts and begin unlocking your inner potential.  There are other ways you can have a regressive mindset, though. You might think that your intelligence is just the way it is due to what you were given at birth, or that your athletic ability is set in stone, or even your relationships skills are what they will be for the rest of your life.   Having a progressive mind consists of the following:
  1. Learning: Every experience is an opportunity to learn and get better rather than a test to prove oneself.  Welcoming mini failure along the way because you realize this enables you to learn quickly and respond from that point on with your new-found knowledge leading you on a more direct path towards your goals.
  2. Effort: If enough effort, persistence and consistency with the proper actions are applied, anything can be changed.  Change is not by chance, but by choice alone.
  3. Drive: Those with the progressive mindset clearly identify with the highest value / the most important thing in their lives, identify their mission associated with this value and devote their efforts towards fulfilling that.
  Having a set or regressive mind consists of the following:
  1. Talent: Accomplishments come through talent alone.  Either you are born with the ability or you are not.  If not, move on to what you are good at already.
  2. Judgment: Every situation is one that is setting themselves up for judgment, which many times will lead to negative feedback.  I would rather concentrate on what I know and not step out of the box that far so I keep face and look good doing it.  They refuse to take on challenge out of fear.
  3. Fragile: If they receive any type of negative feedback meant to prompt growth, it is perceived as a devastating event.
  Living with the progressive mindset allows you to stop uncertainty before letting it stop you.  You do this through planning, learning, correcting and transforming your patterns of action.  This allows you to seek challenge as an opportunity to break through to a higher level of understanding and accomplishment in your life.  This will allow and encourage you to have follow-through, consistency and persistence on a daily basis.  The body needs food to grow and develop.  The mind needs this in the form of challenge and conquer in order to grow self confidence and self worth. If I could put my finger on the one thing that is holding so many back from unlocking their potential and entering into the progressive mindset, I would absolutely say that it is fear.  There is an inner imbalance in our perceptions of what terrible things are going to happen if this fear comes true and this holds us back from even attempting to step out of our comfort zone.  Let me ask you this.  What if that fear came true?  How would that actually benefit your life?  What would the experience teach you?  How would it enable you to attack the situation using a better approach moving forward?  How would that move you closer to fulfilling your goals?  Just something to think about.   Have an awesome and inspired day!

Quick Inspiration: Failure is your friend. RUN TO IT, not from it!

It’s interesting when we look at the word fail.  So many times when we do, we see it as the end of a particular situation or opportunity.  I challenge you to change your thinking and perception of the word and the situations attached to your current definition of “failure.”   Failure is not anything to be afraid of.  In fact, every time we learn and advance in our lives, it is because of something we did wrong or simply didn't know how to do beforehand.   When we are able to analyze a situation we have “failed” at and productively learn how to do it better moving forward, it only makes us stronger individuals.  When you do learn, you advance.  When you advance, you accelerate not only your inner knowledge, but also your outer abilities.   So I challenge you to look for challenges you are unsure of.  I challenge you to look for situations you have the OPPORTUNITY to fail and RUN TO THEM.  Know that any “failure” you have is completely temporary.  It will give you the opportunity (IF YOU CHOOSE) to learn from your previous actions and approach the situation with a more powerful strategy the next time.   This entire process enables you to accelerate and advance your personal growth in all areas of your life getting you closer and closer to Maximizing Your Potential.   Trevor A.
